Post 5: Lyrical jazz
Hi class! today im going to write about lyrical jazz. Its a dance style really interesting to talk about. I have been practicing this style for a while now and I have learned a lot.
Lyrical jazz is based on bellet technique but with a higher degree of freedom and fluidity. It is considered a subcategory of contemporary dance.
In this tipe of dance most of its steps are on the floor. Something like earthly dance, where you have to feel the music, let yourself go and express feelings. Really conncected with you and what are you feeling, but never forgetting about the technique. Something really important in this technique is flexibility. if you dont have a lot of flexibility doesent mean you cant practice lyrical jazz, but in this technique has a lot of legs up, jumps with a headdress, and a lot back arch etc.. All this at more advances levels, we can always start with basic and simpler things, but just as nice to do.
Something the I really like of this practice, is the costumers that are used for the presentations. The most common are monochrome colors. Or a palette is chosen and varied in all possible shades. On stage it looks very nice.
Clothes for classes are ussually very baggy and loose. this way it is more comfortable to move and you can slide better on the floor. Very similar to contemporary dance rehearsal clothing.
And the last thing interesting to mention, and the thing the I learn the most with lyrical jazz is that the movements of lyrical are not as thought or crontolled, as was commented before. They are very linked steps, so if you are tense or you are overthinking it, it be noticed. And that in my opinion is very cool because when you get to practice lyrical you are already thinking about letting your body go and not tensing it too much.
All dance styles have their different ways to expressing themselves and the way tha the lyrical jazz has is very interesting to practice. It is a very preatty way to dance.
